Hotel opened in 1940, the Admiral Semmes is named for Raphael Semmes, best remembered as the first and only commander of the Confederate ship, Alabama. Lobby has a marble floor and curving stairs, an unique oval balcony lobby highlighted by a large central chandelier, mirrored walls in the mezzanine, and the original Art Deco elevator doors.
The 170 guest rooms and suites are luxuriously appointed with designer wall coverings, writing desks and comfortable seating areas. Custom furnishings of the Chippendale and Queen Anne era.
