An historic, landmark building was renovated to house Le Meridien. The building, a Renaissance-Revival granite and limestone structure, was designed by R. Clipston Sturgis and modeled after the Palazzo della Cancellaria in Rome. It was originally constructed in 1922 to house the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. In 1981, the doors of Le Meridien opened. The interior of the building reflects the same combination of old and new. Marble door frames, carved granite, gold leaf ceilings (coffered and domed) are side by side with a six-story glass enclosed atrium.
