Jared Coffin, one of the more prominent and successful ship owners of his time, built Nantucket island's first three-story mansion on Broad and Centre Streets in 1845. Shortly after the residence was completed, the Coffin family placed the property on the market and moved to Boston. When the Great Fire of 1846 burned out most of the center of town, the brick walls and slate roof of the Jared Coffin House resisted the fire and helped stop its spread.
The Inn at Jared Coffin House hosts weddings in the hotel garden. Receptions can include a sit-down dinner or buffet with dancing.
