As part of historic St Louis Union Station, the Hyatt Regency St Louis reflects the grace and opulence of the Romanesque architecture.

In 1889, the Terminal Railroad Association was formed for the purpose of consolidating the numerous railway entries and exits of the St Louis area. In 1891, they sponsored a national competition for the design of a new St Louis railroad station. The winning entry was submitted by Theodore C Link, a St Louis architect and former railroader. In March of 1979, Oppenheimer Properties purchased the station. In August of 1985, after two years of extensive restoration and new construction, St Louis Union Station celebrated its grand re-opening as a specialty retail, restaurant, entertainment and hotel complex.
