Castle Hotel, a luxurious Relais & Chateaux Property - with a history that began before the turn of the 20th Century. The land was bought by General Howard Carroll and his family with the intention of building a family residence on it. The Carrolls were a prominent society family known in both Westchester and New York social circles. Noted New York architect, Henry Kilburn, designed the structure itself. But it was Carroll's idea to build the 45-room castle in the style of Norman fortifications found in Wales, Scotland and Ireland. When the structure was completed in 1910, the results were nothing less than spectacular.
Though The Castle was a building of considerable grandeur, General Carroll and his family felt very much at home. This, of course, gave new meaning to the expression "a man's home is his castle." The Carrolls entertained there lavishly and played host to prominent people from both New York and Washington.
Today, nearly 100 years later, The Castle At Tarrytown is a world-class hotel .
